Georganics | Natural & Organic Oral Care
When Georganics got in touch with me to review one of their products I was super stoked. Firstly because I'm a keen believer in using products that are chemical free and good for you and while I try to make these myself (like this mouthwash), that's not always possible. So to find a top notch company that make oral products from the highest quality natural, food grade ingredients derived from plants, fruits and natural mineral deposits, well, I'm happy! Secondly because Georganics aren't just another greenwashing company. If you haven't heard the term 'greenwashing' Going Zero Waste explains it really well. In a nutshell it means that Georganics aren't just pretending to be eco-friendly to attract a certain market - they live it.
They only use ingredients that are from pure and organic sources and these ingredients are proven to keep your oral health just as you want it - healthy. Much of what goes into their products is based on ancient methods and an understanding of the medicinal value of plants, something I am always trying to learn more about. The plant kingdom is rich with healing properties. Not only is it important to Georganics to include pure, organic ingredients in their products and to exclude the toxic ingredients that we find in popular oral care products, but how they package their products is important too. When I received a spearmint toothpaste in the post it came wrapped in 100% recyclable/biodegradable packaging and although the jar looks like it's wrapped in plastic, it's actually a 100% biodegradable material made from extruded cellulose that originates from a wood pulp from renewable resources. I had never even heard of it (it's called viskrings) but it apparently takes only 6 weeks to biodegrade once you've added it to your compost heap. The toothpaste jar itself I've already earmarked as the perfect shape for a candle holder once I've finished with it!
As for the actual toothpaste - I tried out a spearmint flavour. All their toothpastes include coconut oil but vary in flavours. They've got some unconventional ones (fennel or red mandarin anyone?) but they are all based on an understanding of the different and natural benefits of various plants, roots and fruit. The ginger one is next on my list. If you haven't ever tried a herbal/natural toothpaste they don't have that twang that conventional ones have and that we have grown used to. Georganics, like many other natural products, is a lot milder and more gentle tasting. I personally really enjoy the less harsh (and burny!) vibe of a nature inspired toothpaste but it does take some getting used to. We have to unlearn that a lack of the powerful peppermint flavouring we are used to, or foaming for that matter, doesn't mean our teeth aren't getting the 'full clean' treatment.
All in all, I totally recommend giving Georganics a go. They care about how their products are sourced, made and packaged and of all the products out there, a company that makes their products with that in mind is worth celebrating and supporting. Check out their oil pulling products too! Based on an ancient Ayurvedic practice, a bottle of that is definitely another on my list.
Let me know if you purchase a pot or if you recommend any eco-friendly alternatives for oral care - I'd love to know.
